NAHCON Finalizes Return Flights for Nigerian Pilgrims Following 2026 Hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has completed the return transport of over 38,000 pilgrims from the 2026 Hajj and is now beginning preparations for the 2027 season.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has officially wrapped up the repatriation of more than 38,000 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia following the 2026 Hajj season. According to commission spokesperson Hajia Fatimah Usara, the final flight carrying pilgrims from Zamfara was scheduled for arrival on Tuesday.

While the return operations have concluded, 12 Nigerian pilgrims remain in Saudi Arabian hospitals for ongoing medical care. The commission is keeping a close watch on their progress and will ensure they are safely transported home once cleared by medical professionals. Hajia Usara thanked the various stakeholders involved, including state boards, tour operators, and aviation partners, while noting that the commission aims to address the challenges encountered during this year’s mission to enhance future performance.

Looking ahead, NAHCON has already initiated planning for the 2027 Hajj. A circular issued on June 15 instructs state welfare boards and private operators to begin preparations immediately, following the guidelines provided by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. NAHCON Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Yusuf, voiced his appreciation to the Almighty, as well as to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, for their support throughout the operation.
