President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that his government is establishing the groundwork for a Nigeria designed to benefit every citizen. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Southern Parkway service carriageways in Abuja, the President noted that while recent economic reforms have been challenging, they are essential for national progress.
Represented by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Tinubu highlighted visible infrastructure improvements, including new roads, bridges, and housing. He encouraged citizens to remain patient and support the Renewed Hope Agenda, promising that significant advancements for Abuja and the nation are on the horizon.
The Southern Parkway project, aligned with the Abuja Master Plan, aims to improve traffic flow and link various districts across the FCT. By expanding these service roads, the administration seeks to alleviate congestion for residents in areas such as Gudu, Gaduwa, and Duboyi, ultimately saving travel time and reducing business costs. Tinubu framed this as a tangible example of democratic dividends.
The President praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, labeling him Mr. Project for his efficiency in reviving stalled infrastructure and meeting deadlines. In response, Wike committed to finishing the project by January 2027, well before the upcoming general elections. The Minister also issued a stern warning against illegal land development along the corridor, instructing officials to demolish any structures built on unauthorized or falsely documented land.
Acting FCDA Executive Secretary Richard Dauda confirmed that the Southern Parkway acts as a vital arterial route, connecting the city from the Central Area through the southern development corridor. The administration emphasized that this project is just one component of a broader, ongoing national infrastructure transformation.
