Followers of former AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore have claimed that Department of State Services agents harmed the activist during an arrest that occurred despite a judicial directive sending him to a correctional facility. The event unfolded after Justice Mohammed Umar ruled that Sowore be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre while awaiting a hearing on his request to suspend a prior bail revocation.
Justice Umar also dismissed Sowore’s plea for him to step down from the case, citing concerns of partiality, and moved the trial to June 24, 2026. Witnesses say DSS personnel apprehended Sowore inside the court building immediately following the ruling. Footage streamed on Sowore’s Facebook account depicts an agent physically removing the activist while other officers prevented onlookers from intervening. This encounter triggered demonstrations at the Federal High Court, as protesters insisted that the judicial order specifically required placement in a correctional center, not with state security forces.
Agena Roberts Ande, representing the AAC in the Federal Capital Territory, criticized the security agency, labeling the act as an example of lawlessness. Meanwhile, Sowore expressed his lack of surprise at the legal developments, stating he is prepared to endure imprisonment as a sacrifice for national change. Sowore is currently fighting charges related to alleged criminal defamation for labeling President Bola Tinubu a criminal on social media. He maintains his innocence regarding these accusations.
