Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has announced a new policy granting automatic civil service jobs to any indigene who earns a first-class degree from any university in Nigeria. Radda shared this update on Sunday at the conclusion of the inaugural Katsina State Students’ Week hosted at Bayero University, Kano.
The governor explained that the initiative aims to recruit top-tier talent into the public sector, ultimately boosting the state’s administrative efficiency. By integrating high-achieving individuals, Radda expects the civil service to reach a level of national competitiveness within the next decade and a half. This policy expansion builds upon existing recruitment efforts previously limited to students from institutions within the state.
Beyond job guarantees, the administration is focusing on educational support. The governor highlighted efforts to resolve unpaid scholarship debts and increase student bursaries. These financial measures, combined with the recruitment of 10,000 teachers and the improvement of school infrastructure, are central to the government’s education-first agenda. Radda noted that these investments have also successfully lowered the number of out-of-school children in the region.
Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Haruna Musa-Muhammad, praised the governor’s commitment to student welfare and the state’s scholarship enhancements. The event, which drew students from across several northern states, featured various academic and athletic competitions to foster collaboration and highlight local talent.
