Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai announced that the Lagos State Police Command apprehended 243 individuals for various crimes between March and June 2026. These offenses included murder, cult activities, and armed robbery. The details were provided during a visit by the South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General, Adegoke Fayoade, at the Ikeja headquarters.
The breakdown of arrests includes 133 cultists, 71 robbery suspects, 35 individuals linked to murders, and four traffic robbery suspects. Fatai noted that police intelligence and proactive measures also successfully prevented 28 robbery attempts, leading to the recovery of 60 guns and 625 bullets.
Fatai credited these results to the support of Inspector-General Olatunji Disu, the Lagos State Government, and local security stakeholders. He emphasized that serious crimes like kidnapping and violent unrest have decreased under his leadership, which began on March 26, 2026. The police also enforced traffic laws by impounding 122 vehicles for one-way driving, seizing 1,058 motorcycles, and catching 1,541 vehicles using restricted BRT lanes.
The commissioner acknowledged the heavy toll of these operations, reporting that seven officers died while serving the state, and three others were injured. He pledged to maintain the current operational momentum to keep Lagos safe for its citizens.
