Jenni Scoble is set to play her final match for the Wales national rugby team when they face the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium this Saturday. The 33-year-old prop, who also serves as a firefighter in Roath, Cardiff, has decided to step away from international competition to dedicate more time to her professional career. While she is leaving the national squad, Scoble intends to remain active at the club level with Gwalia Lightning in the Celtic Challenge.
Reflecting on her departure, Scoble noted that balancing the intensity of professional rugby with her firefighting duties has become increasingly challenging. She expressed that she no longer feels able to provide her full commitment to both demanding roles simultaneously. Head coach Sean Lynn praised the veteran, highlighting her remarkable work ethic and her habit of arriving at training sessions immediately following night shifts. Lynn added that her influence will continue as she mentors younger players within the Gwalia Lightning setup.
Scoble began her rugby journey at Llandaff North and earned her first international cap against Australia during the 2024 WXV2 tournament. She also represented her country during last year’s World Cup. The upcoming fixture in London serves as a warm-up for Wales ahead of the WXV Global Series, which includes matches against South Africa, the USA, and Japan later this year.
