Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Initiates Financial Incentives for Security Reporting

Governor Umo Eno has introduced a cash reward scheme for residents who provide credible security intelligence, while simultaneously integrating over 2,000 village youth leaders into the state’s formal security framework.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has launched a new incentive program designed to encourage residents to share valuable security intelligence. During a meeting in Uyo with village youth leaders, the governor declared that citizens providing reliable information that leads to the prevention of crimes or the arrest of offenders will receive financial rewards.

While specific payment details remain undisclosed, the governor emphasized a transition from simply observing and reporting to an active system of incentivized cooperation. As part of this initiative, 2,272 Village Youth Presidents have been formally integrated into the state’s security network. These leaders are expected to collaborate closely with traditional rulers and local government authorities to improve surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Governor Eno highlighted that local communities serve as the primary defense against crime, noting that residents are best positioned to notice suspicious activities. He tasked security agencies with providing specialized training to these youth leaders to ensure their effectiveness. Furthermore, the administration plans to bolster the state’s Quick Response Force across all ten federal constituencies to improve emergency response times. The governor concluded by stressing that security is a shared duty and warned that these new measures do not grant immunity to anyone engaging in illegal activities.
