Kaduna Police Denounce Mob Killing of Suspect Removed From Custody

The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a kidnapping suspect who was forcibly extracted from police custody and murdered in Maraban Jos.

The Kaduna State Police Command has officially denounced the brutal murder of a woman who had been taken into protective custody following kidnapping accusations in Maraban Jos. DSP Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in an official statement released on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Maraban Jos was alerted at approximately 10:00 a.m. to reports of a woman facing a mob attack. Responding officers arrived at the scene, successfully rescued the individual, and brought her to the station to begin an investigation. The situation escalated when a large crowd gathered, overwhelmed the officers, and forcibly retrieved the woman. She was subsequently killed and her body was set on fire.

Police leadership labeled the incident as a criminal and barbaric violation of the rule of law, emphasizing that vigilante justice will not be permitted. Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad stated that investigations are underway and that several suspects linked to the mob attack have already been apprehended. Authorities are actively pursuing the remaining participants to ensure they face legal prosecution.
