Arsenal have outmaneuvered Liverpool to sign 16-year-old goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney, adding him to their youth setup at Hale End. The deal, which involves a nominal compensation fee paid to Northern Irish club Larne, was confirmed by the player’s father, Alan Blayney.
After completing a successful trial in north London, Blayney chose Arsenal over other Premier League suitors, including Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. His father described the Gunners’ offer as the standout opportunity for the young keeper.
The agreement dictates that Blayney will sign a professional contract once he turns 17 in November 2027. A pre-contract is scheduled to be signed shortly to finalize the arrangement. The teenager previously toured Liverpool’s facilities, but ultimately felt a stronger connection to the coaches at Arsenal, aided by the presence of his friend and international teammate Daniel McCarron.
Blayney will now begin his development within the Under-18 squad, working under the instruction of coach Adam Birchall, who took the helm following Jack Wilshere’s departure.
