Miyu Yamashita secured her third LPGA title after defeating Lottie Woad in a sudden-death play-off at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Yamashita mounted a spectacular comeback, carding a final-round 64 that included nine birdies to finish at 17 under par.
England’s Lottie Woad, who began the day trailing overnight leader Jing Yan by a single stroke, finished her round with a four-under 68 at Blythefield Country Club. The 22-year-old nearly claimed her third LPGA victory after a dramatic birdie from a bunker on the 17th hole. However, a missed four-foot putt on the 18th resulted in a bogey, forcing a play-off against the charging Japanese golfer.
During the play-off on the par-five 18th hole, Yamashita gained an advantage with a superior third shot. The 24-year-old world number eight subsequently sank her birdie putt to clinch the trophy. Yamashita had started the final round five strokes behind the leader but capitalized on five birdies in her first seven holes to ultimately pull level with Woad.
