Monaghan Secures All-Ireland Quarter-Final Spot After Defeating Westmeath

Monaghan defeated Westmeath 1-28 to 2-19 at St Tiernach’s Park to secure their place in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.

Monaghan advanced to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals following a decisive 1-28 to 2-19 victory over Westmeath at St Tiernach’s Park. The match was tightly contested early on, with the teams tied at 0-15 to 2-9 at halftime.

During a fast-paced opening half in Clones, Monaghan goalkeeper Rory Beggan successfully converted three two-point frees. Westmeath stayed competitive, responding with goals from Matthew Whittaker and Brandon Kelly. The game remained balanced throughout the first half, as neither squad could establish a significant advantage.

The momentum shifted after the break as Monaghan began to dominate. Despite an early missed goal opportunity by Ryan O’Toole, Monaghan embarked on a strong scoring run. Jack McCarron, who finished with a personal tally of 1-5, eventually sealed the victory by netting a goal following an impactful run from Stephen O’Hanlon. As Westmeath fatigued in the final stages, Monaghan capitalised on their opponent’s exhaustion to secure a comfortable six-point win, effectively ending any hopes of a late Westmeath comeback.
