England edges closer to T20 World Cup semi-finals after beating Scotland

England defeated Scotland by 38 runs at Headingley to boost their chances of reaching the T20 World Cup semi-finals, supported by a strong batting display from Sophia Dunkley and a late scoring surge from Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson.

England has moved one step closer to securing a spot in the T20 World Cup semi-finals following a 38-run victory against Scotland at Headingley. Despite the absence of injured captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, the English side posted a strong total of 200-5.

Sophia Dunkley returned to the lineup and impressed with 57 runs, aided by three missed opportunities from the Scottish fielders. Alice Capsey contributed 40, while a late onslaught from Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson—who combined for 61 runs off just 21 balls—pushed the total to a competitive 200.

Scotland responded with their highest-ever second-innings T20 international score of 162-7, but the target proved too steep. Sarah Bryce led their effort with 34 runs. Charlie Dean stepped in as interim captain for England, leading the team through a performance that echoed their tournament-opening dominance.

With this win, England needs only one more victory in their remaining group games against the West Indies or New Zealand to guarantee a top-two finish. Meanwhile, Scotland continues their tournament campaign against New Zealand on Tuesday.
