Teenager Disappears Following Boat Crash at NPA Waterside in Warri

A 19-year-old girl is missing after a canoe and a motorized boat collided at the NPA Waterside in Warri, prompting calls for better maritime safety.

A maritime accident occurred today at the NPA Waterside in Warri, Delta State, involving a collision between a canoe and a motorized boat. The canoe, which was traveling from Sandfill II, capsized upon impact.

Nineteen-year-old Chinaza remains missing following the incident. Local fishermen and divers are currently scouring the river in hopes of locating her. Witnesses state that the collision happened mid-stream while both vessels were carrying multiple passengers. Chinaza, who reportedly could not swim, sank immediately after the impact.

A seven-year-old boy, who was traveling with his family, managed to swim to safety. Favour, a friend of the missing teenager who was also on board, confirmed that the driver of the motorized boat has surrendered to the Marine Police and is currently in custody.

While rescue operations continue, officials have yet to issue a formal statement. This event has prompted local calls for improved safety protocols, including mandatory life jacket usage and better speed regulation on Warri waterways.
