Bukayo Saka trained away from the main squad as England readied themselves for their upcoming World Cup clash against Ghana. The Arsenal winger followed a private training routine indoors, focusing on an ongoing Achilles problem that has persisted since March.
England faces Ghana in Boston this Tuesday at 21:00 BST, with both nations entering the contest following wins in their Group L openers. Manager Thomas Tuchel oversaw training at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City with 25 of his 26 squad members present.
Saka appeared as a substitute during the 4-2 victory against Croatia, recording an assist for Marcus Rashford. While Saka has expressed a willingness to play through the discomfort, Tuchel indicated he is being cautious. The head coach noted that the 24-year-old is unlikely to be in the starting lineup until the final group stage fixture against Panama on June 27.
Although Arsenal managed his playing time during their recent successful domestic campaign, Tuchel is taking a protective approach. By limiting his involvement now, the manager aims to ensure the winger remains available for the later phases of the tournament.
