During the Ekiti State gubernatorial election held on Saturday, reports emerged regarding the distribution of cash to voters. Individuals at polling sites in Aramoko Ekiti, the administrative center of the Ekiti West Local Government Area, claimed that representatives from political groups provided money to influence electoral choices.
Specifically, residents stated that agents representing the All Progressives Congress offered N10,000, while the African Democratic Congress allegedly provided N2,000 per person. Observers at Polling Unit 004 in Oke Uro noted these transactions occurred publicly, even as security staff and poll workers were stationed nearby. Voters described the situation as common throughout the area.
Before these reports, officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission conducted oversight at a polling station in Ikogosi. Although roughly ten agents monitored the environment, they reported no arrests. These developments follow prior warnings from the Independent National Electoral Commission and various advocacy groups regarding the risks of financial influence in the democratic process.
