Scott Gretton, a 45-year-old mechanic playing for Rugeley Second XI, achieved a rare batting milestone by striking six sixes in back-to-back overs during a South Staffordshire County League match against Springvale Seconds. Gretton scored 150 runs from just 51 balls, a display featuring 19 sixes and six fours that secured a 156-run victory for his team.
Entering the game with his side at 7-2, Gretton spent his initial deliveries adjusting to the pitch. He began finding the boundary regularly in the 10th over. Despite the frequent pauses required to retrieve balls from a nearby roof and car park, Gretton continued his assault. He reached his century in 36 balls and his final total of 150 in 49 balls.
Gretton admitted he was unaware of the historical significance of his performance until a teammate informed him later that evening. Given the interruptions caused by lost balls and extra deliveries like wides and no-balls, the flow of the game had masked the nature of his achievement. While legendary players like Garfield Sobers have hit six sixes in a single over, performing the feat across successive overs is exceptionally rare in the sport.
