The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has voiced strong condemnation following the mass abduction of pupils, teachers, and staff in the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities of Oyo State.
The organization labeled the assault a national embarrassment and a grave sign that criminal violence is moving into the South-West region.
Led by President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association issued a statement criticizing the brazen daylight raids. CAN highlighted the incident as evidence of a systemic failure in national security, noting that schools are no longer safe environments for Nigerian students.
The group also mourned the loss of an assistant headmaster who was killed while attempting to shield students during the attack.
Expressing frustration with government inaction, CAN declared that citizens are tired of empty promises. The organization argued that the normalization of such violence threatens the stability of the entire country.
They have called upon the Federal Government, regional security forces, and the Oyo State administration to prioritize the rescue of those abducted and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. CAN concluded by urging authorities to bolster security measures in rural areas and forest regions to protect vulnerable communities from further harm.
