Tehran Accuses Washington Of Insincerity Regarding Diplomatic Efforts
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, stated on Monday that the United States lacks genuine commitment to diplomatic resolution.
During his weekly press briefing, Baqaei argued that Washington’s recent actions contradict its stated interest in negotiations.
Baqaei pointed to the targeting of an Iranian cargo vessel, the naval blockade of Iranian ports, and the slow progress of the Lebanon ceasefire as evidence of ongoing breaches of the current agreement. Tensions have remained high since the February 28 death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Although President Donald Trump announced that American negotiators were heading to Pakistan for further discussions, Iran has not committed to participating. Baqaei confirmed there are currently no scheduled talks.
The central disputes remain Iran’s enriched uranium reserves and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Regarding the uranium, Baqaei explicitly denied that transferring the stockpile to the U.S. has ever been a subject of negotiation.
