Lawmaker Obi Aguocha: Sacrificing for Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom
Obi Aguocha, the federal lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency, stated that his ongoing campaign for the liberation of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has resulted in significant personal losses.
Aguocha observed that numerous Igbo leaders refrain from addressing Nnamdi Kanu’s situation and broader regional challenges. He noted that his persistent calls for Kanu’s release, alongside other detained individuals, have led to him being negatively perceived.
The House of Representatives member also asserted that he holds Kanu’s exclusive authorization to negotiate his freedom. This, Aguocha believes, underscores the deep trust Kanu places in him.
“I am fully aware of what I have forfeited as a member of the House of Representatives by advocating for Nnamdi Kanu and other constitutional matters, given the positions I have adopted,” Aguocha remarked. “I recognize what I continue to lose because I have been singled out for consistently siding with this cause, but I hold no regrets whatsoever.”
He urged Igbo leaders to forge a unified front to secure Kanu’s liberty, drawing a parallel to how Yoruba leaders successfully championed Sunday Igboho’s release. Aguocha, however, commended Governor Alex Otti for initiating efforts to gather South East Governors in support of Kanu’s release.
Additionally, Aguocha conveyed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, that he would be unable to defeat Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 election.
