Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially confirmed that 28 people lost their lives during a violent assault by gunmen in the Angwan Rukuba community on Sunday evening.

During a state broadcast on Tuesday, the Governor condemned the “senseless” killings and vowed that his administration would pursue justice for the victims and their families.

Immediate Security Measures

In response to the tragedy, the state government has implemented several urgent actions to restore order:

  • 48-Hour Curfew: A mandatory curfew has been imposed on the Jos North Local Government Area, effective until April 1, 2026, to allow security forces to secure the region.

  • Arrest Made: Authorities have already apprehended one suspect who had previously issued threats against the state’s peace.

  • Motorcycle Ban: Governor Mutfwang has ordered the strict enforcement of the existing ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) within the Jos Greater Master Plan to curb criminal mobility.

Government Support and Recovery

Governor Mutfwang personally visited the survivors at the Jos University Teaching Hospital and pledged that the state would cover all medical expenses for the injured.

Furthermore, the government has committed to assisting bereaved families with burial arrangements and providing long-term support for dependents of the deceased.

A Call for Restraint and Vigilance

The Governor praised the affected community for choosing peace over retaliation and urged all citizens to remain watchful.

He emphasized that the state’s security architecture is being overhauled to be more proactive, ensuring that Plateau State remains resilient in the face of such security breaches.
