Galatasaray Star Victor Osimhen Undergoes Successful Surgery After Champions League Injury
Turkish champions Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has successfully undergone surgery following a significant hand injury sustained during a recent European clash.
The incident occurred during the first half of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match against Liverpool at Anfield, where Osimhen suffered a fractured right forearm following a mid-air collision with defender Ibrahima Konaté.
Although the 27-year-old forward attempted to play through the pain with a heavily bandaged arm, he was ultimately substituted at halftime as the severity of the injury became apparent.
In an official statement released on Monday, March 23, 2026, the club announced that the procedure was performed by head doctor Yener İnce at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital.
While the surgery was a success, the loss of their star forward is a major blow to the Istanbul giants, especially following their 4-1 aggregate elimination from the Champions League. Osimhen, who has been in sensational form this season with 19 goals across all competitions, reportedly received messages of support from Liverpool players following the accidental clash.
Galatasaray has not yet provided a definitive timeline for the striker’s return to the pitch, stating that his recovery will be monitored on a daily basis.
However, early medical assessments suggest a total absence of approximately four to six weeks. The club expressed their best wishes for a rapid recovery, hoping to have their leading goalscorer back in time for the critical final stretch of the domestic league season, including the highly anticipated Intercontinental Derby against rivals Fenerbahçe in late April.
