INEC Begins Nationwide Display Of Preliminary Voters’ Register
The Independent National Electoral Commission has launched the nationwide display of the Preliminary Register of Voters at its Local Government Area offices, opening a critical window for citizens to confirm their voting details.
The exercise kicked off on Monday, December 15, 2025, following the conclusion of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) programme, which ended on December 10, 2025.
In a statement shared on its official X handle, INEC called on Nigerians who recently registered or updated their records to visit their respective LGA offices to ensure their information was accurately captured.
According to the commission, the verification process is designed to give voters the opportunity to spot and correct errors before the final register is produced. INEC also disclosed that the next phase of the CVR will resume in January 2026.
During the display period, registered voters are expected to scrutinise their details and submit claims where necessary. This includes cases of missing names, incorrect personal information, or incomplete records.
The commission also invited members of the public to file objections against entries they believe are invalid. Such objections may apply if a listed individual is deceased, underage, not a Nigerian citizen, or otherwise ineligible to vote in the area.
INEC confirmed that the Claims and Objections exercise will last one week, ending on Sunday, December 21, 2025, urging citizens to take part to safeguard the credibility of the voters’ register.
What Voters Should Do
Eligible voters are advised to visit their INEC LGA offices nationwide to verify that their names and personal details are correct.
Claims should be filed if a voter discovers that:
- Their name is missing from the register
- Personal details such as name, age, or gender are incorrect
- Parts of their registration information are incomplete
Objections may be raised if a registered individual:
- Is deceased
- Is below 18 years of age
- Is not a Nigerian citizen
- Does not meet the legal requirements to be registered
INEC stressed that all claims and objections must be submitted within the December 15–21, 2025 window, noting that public participation is essential to building a transparent and trustworthy electoral process.
