The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Youth Province 1, alongside several other youth provinces in Lagos, has invested about N40m in its free bus service designed to ferry residents to and from work.

The initiative, which ran from November 24 to December 5, was announced in a statement released on Friday. It provided morning and evening transportation across major routes in Lagos and Ogun.

According to the statement, buses operated from RCCG Jesus Palace (Festac) to CMS; Oworonshoki to CMS; Redemption City to 7UP; Redemption City to Sagamu; Redemption City to Trinity Towers (VI); Redemption City to Agege; and Ikorodu to Maryland, with free return trips every evening.

Now in its second year, the programme aims to ease the rising transportation burden brought on by increasing living costs.

The statement noted that many Nigerians are struggling under heavy expenses without matching income growth, making transport one of the most pressing daily challenges. The church said this prompted the youth provinces to step in by offering free workday travel.

About 10 long yellow buses were deployed, carrying hundreds of commuters daily.

Pastor Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, Pastor-in-Charge of Youth Province 1, said the initiative was launched to reduce the pressure on residents. He recalled how last year’s edition brought immense relief and said this convinced them to revive the effort in collaboration with Youth Provinces 2, 7, 14, 18 and 20.

“We see the rides as a meaningful way to begin or end the day praying, sharing Scripture and encouraging one another,” he added, stressing that the service is open to everyone, regardless of religion or tribe.

He confirmed that around N40m was spent on this year’s edition, which covered both morning trips and return journeys.

Adeboye also mentioned that the province supported by Pastor Martins Olusakin (CSR) and Pastor Abiodun Famojuro (Administration) is preparing for the upcoming RCCG Holy Ghost Congress in the second week of December.

Pastor Olusakin said users of the free service had flooded social media with messages of gratitude, reflecting the relief the rides continue to bring.

PUNCH Online recalls that in September 2024, Youth Province 1 launched a similar free bus service covering parts of Lagos and Ogun, introduced to ease transportation costs and provide spiritual support amid soaring inflation.
