Tijjaniyya Leader Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Passes Away At 99

Nigeria has lost one of its most revered Islamic scholars, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose passing was confirmed early Thursday morning.

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, announced the news on X, praying for Allah’s mercy on the departed leader. The Sheikh’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, also confirmed the death, noting that the family is yet to decide whether he will be buried in Abuja or Bauchi.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a towering figure in the Tijjaniyya order, was widely respected for his spiritual leadership, scholarship, and humanitarian work. Through his foundation, he facilitated scholarships for students across northern Nigeria, including 117 beneficiaries who departed for Algeria in 2025 for fully funded studies.

A lifelong advocate of peace, the Sheikh often lent his voice to national issues. In 2018, he urged Nigerians not to attribute violence in farming communities to the Fulani indiscriminately, warning against ethnic profiling.

Married first in 1948, he was blessed with a large family about 70 children as of 2019 and countless grandchildren trained in Quranic education. In his later years, he described himself as “a traveller waiting for the vehicle to the great beyond,” reflecting his readiness for the final journey.

The Bauchi State Government and the family are yet to issue a formal announcement, but tributes continue to pour in for a man whose influence shaped faith, learning, and charity across Nigeria.
