Jay-Z Wins Paternity Case As U.S. Court Dismisses Lawsuit “With Prejudice”
California, USA A long-running paternity battle against hip-hop icon Jay-Z has officially come to an end after a California federal judge dismissed the case with prejudice, permanently barring the plaintiff from refiling.
According to Page Six, the ruling on Wednesday granted Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss a federal paternity suit filed earlier this year by Rymir Satterthwaite, 30, through his legal guardian and paralegal, Lillie Coley.
The decision means Satterthwaite who has repeatedly claimed to be the rapper’s biological son can no longer pursue paternity testing or bring the same claim to court.
Satterthwaite alleged that the 99 Problems rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, had an intimate relationship with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s. Carter, 55, has consistently denied the allegation for years.
In a now-deleted July Instagram post, Satterthwaite appeared to confirm he had withdrawn his case, saying:
“I did withdraw my case. There’s a lot going on behind closed doors. I have not stopped my fight we’ve got to step back and play chess, not checkers.”
Attorneys for Jay-Z have described the repeated filings as “harassment,” asserting that the claims have been dismissed by “multiple other courts” over the years.
“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed — and rejected — in multiple jurisdictions,” court documents stated.
Satterthwaite, an aspiring rapper, had argued that his suit was not about financial compensation but about “reputational and emotional distress damages.” In previous filings, he accused Jay-Z of “committing fraud upon multiple courts” and “interfering with procedural due process.”
In May 2023, Satterthwaite filed a motion to compel Jay-Z to take a DNA test, pledging,
“This is not going to be over until justice is served… I won’t stop fighting until I win.”
However, Jay-Z’s attorneys maintained that the allegations had already been “thoroughly reviewed and refuted.”
Satterthwaite’s late mother, Wanda, had also pursued a child support case against Carter in New Jersey, which was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds and never refiled.
Jay-Z shares three children Blue Ivy, 13, and twins Rumi and Sir, 8 with global music star Beyoncé.
