Born William Wainwright in North London, he rose to prominence for his pivotal role in revitalizing Madonna’s career with her 1998 album, Ray of Light. This record masterfully merged electronic dance music and ambient techno with traditional pop, earning three Grammy Awards and often being cited as the singer’s finest work.
Orbit’s production prowess extended to other major projects, including Blur’s experimental 1999 studio effort 13 and the chart-topping Saints & Sinners by All Saints. He also contributed to U2’s 2002 track Electrical Storm and gained personal recognition for his 1995 electronic-classical fusion project, Pieces in a Modern Style.
