Fire Destroys 14 Shops At Ogundipe Market In Ibadan

Goods worth millions of naira were lost after a fire broke out at Ogundipe Market, Agodi Gate, Ibadan North, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 24, destroying 14 of the 42 shops in the complex.

According to the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, no lives were lost in the incident.

He said the fire was reported at 3:50 a.m. by a resident, Mr. Sulaiman, and fire service personnel led by T.K. Olayiwola quickly responded.

“Upon arrival, we found 14 shops well alight. We swiftly curtailed the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby shops. No casualties were recorded,” Akinwande said.

He added that property worth billions of naira was saved thanks to the prompt intervention of firefighters. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Akinwande also advised traders to prioritize fire safety by installing extinguishers in their shops and taking precautions to prevent minor incidents from escalating.
