Nigeria has joined 15 other member states of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) in pledging to deepen cross-border collaboration aimed at harnessing digital transformation for global prosperity and peace.

The commitment was announced during the inaugural High-level Dialogue for Digital Cooperation, held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a joint statement, the countries emphasized the need to dismantle digital barriers and foster stronger partnerships across borders in order to build inclusive and resilient digital economies.

“We must overcome digital fragmentation and strengthen cooperation across borders to drive resilience, prosperity, and peace,” the statement read.

The DCO’s member nations include Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Djibouti, The Gambia, Ghana, Greece, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda, and Saudi Arabia.

The coalition committed to aligning their national digital strategies with shared principles of inclusion, responsible innovation, and robust ecosystem development. They also highlighted the importance of South-South and Triangular partnerships as engines of inclusive growth.

To monitor progress, the DCO reaffirmed the importance of data-driven tools such as its Digital Economy Navigator and welcomed the expansion of the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as a platform to sustain multilateral dialogue.

Established in 2020, the DCO is the world’s first intergovernmental body solely dedicated to advancing inclusive and sustainable digital economies. With observer status at the UN, it represents over 800 million people—70 percent of whom are under 35—and works with governments, private sector players, and civil society to promote digital inclusion, cross-border data flows, and entrepreneurship.
