UNN Bans Evening Social Events After Fatal Stabbing On Campus
The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has banned all social activities on campus that extend beyond 6 p.m., following the killing of a businessman during a student-organised event.
In a statement signed by Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu, the institution said the decision was prompted by the tragic incident of September 12, when Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death during a bonfire night organised by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.
“Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m. henceforth,” the statement read. “Such activities must now take place strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit.”
The university described the attack as an unfortunate incident, saying the event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighbouring community who sparked violence.
Management assured students and the public that UNN remains committed to maintaining safety on its campuses and will take all necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.
