PDP Condemns Move to Block Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Senate Resumption

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced what it described as an orchestrated attempt by the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly to prevent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming legislative duties after her six-month suspension.

The clerk had issued a letter stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan could not return to the Senate since her suspension remains under judicial review.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership of using the National Assembly bureaucracy to silence opposition voices and deny Kogi Central Senatorial District proper representation.

The party described the move as unconstitutional, provocative, and a threat to democracy, alleging that it reflects a broader pattern of harassment, particularly against women. It further demanded that the Clerk withdraw the letter, maintain neutrality, and allow Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume her duties without hindrance.

The PDP also called on the international community and rights groups to speak against what it termed a fresh attack on democracy, insisting that Akpoti-Uduaghan should immediately take her seat in the Senate.
