Teyana Taylor Ordered To Pay $70,000 To Ex-Husband Iman Shumpert In Divorce Dispute
American singer, songwriter, and actress Teyana Taylor has been ordered to pay her ex-husband, former NBA player Iman Shumpert, $70,000 after being found in contempt of court in their ongoing divorce proceedings.
According to Us Weekly, the pair appeared in court on July 25 to address accusations of violating their 2024 divorce judgment. The judge ruled in Shumpert’s favor, determining that Taylor breached the agreement which prohibited either party from disclosing details about the judgment by posting an Instagram video in March discussing the divorce.
Taylor’s counterclaim that Shumpert leaked information to the media was dismissed due to insufficient evidence. The court order also noted that Taylor refused to answer Shumpert’s questions regarding her assets and income, arguing the information was irrelevant.
As a result, the court ordered Taylor to cover $70,000 in Shumpert’s legal fees and denied her request that he pay her own. However, Shumpert’s bid to have Taylor held in contempt for allegedly violating their parenting plan was rejected.
Taylor quietly filed for divorce in January 2023, alleging in court documents obtained by TMZ that Shumpert was a jealous and emotionally abusive partner who resented her success. She claimed he displayed “extreme narcissistic behavior” for much of their marriage. Shumpert denied the accusations in a December filing, asking that the reason for their split be changed from “cruel treatment” to “irretrievably broken bond” and insisting there was no evidence he made her feel unsafe.
The former couple, who wed in October 2016, share two daughters: Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 9, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 4.
