Outrage As Patient Assaults Female Doctor With Stick At Yobe Hospital
A Nigerian doctor, Alamin Usman, has raised alarm over an incident in which a female medical colleague was allegedly assaulted by a patient at the Government Hospital in Damaturu, Yobe State.
Usman said the male patient became enraged after claiming the doctor had not attended to him promptly. In a fit of anger, he reportedly picked up a stick and flogged her repeatedly.
‘’Today we woke up to the devastating and rather heartbreaking news about a medical doctor in General Hospital, Damaturu, Yobe state who was flogged by a patient because of her delay in reviewing his file. This came after the patient was called severally with no answer. The doctor was about to end her shift and she decided to hand over the patient’s file to her colleague. This patient after series of abuses, followed her outside, cut down a piece from a tree and flogged her. He flooged her in front of people. He flogged a female who was there to save lives. Just because he feels that he is in a society that accepts it, sees it and allows it.”
The disturbing incident, captured in a video shared by Usman, has triggered outrage on social media, with Nigerians demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
Many commentators have also called for stronger security measures in hospitals to protect health workers, stressing that such attacks could discourage medical professionals from carrying out their duties, especially in underserved areas.
