Israel Intercepts Missile Fired From Yemen, Huthis Claim Responsibility
The Israeli military said Thursday it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, with Iran-backed Huthi rebels claiming responsibility.
According to the army’s statement on Telegram, the air force intercepted the projectile, while Huthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said it was a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” aimed at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.
The Huthis have repeatedly targeted Israel with missiles and drones since Hamas’s October 2023 attack triggered the Gaza war. They paused strikes during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March but resumed them after Israel restarted major operations.
In response to past attacks, Israel has carried out airstrikes in Yemen, hitting Huthi-controlled ports and the airport in the rebel-held capital, Sanaa.
