Inter Hold Firm at €45m for Lookman as Transfer Standoff with Atalanta Deepens
Inter Milan have capped their bid for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman at €45m before bonuses—€50m including them—as they persist in their efforts to sign their top summer target, despite competition from Napoli and Arsenal.
The Serie A champions have been in pursuit of the 27-year-old for weeks but remain deadlocked in talks with Atalanta, who are unwilling to sell one of their key players to a domestic rival. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inter’s earlier €45m package was rejected, prompting Lookman to post on social media accusing Atalanta of breaking promises and mistreating him both professionally and personally.
The former Leicester City winger claims he had a verbal agreement to leave this summer if a suitable offer arrived. Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi, however, clarified that such a deal only applies to moves abroad, not within Italy. Frustrated, Lookman has refused to attend training, leaving the situation at an impasse.
Napoli, who explored a move in January as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, remain in the frame should Inter withdraw. Arsenal also made a £45m bid, reportedly exceeding Atalanta’s valuation, but Lookman rejected it, signalling his preference to stay in Serie A.
Personal terms between Inter and the reigning African Player of the Year are already agreed, but Atalanta are holding out for the full €50m and are prepared to take legal action against the player for leaving Italy without permission and missing training.
