Obi Remains Loyal To Labour Party, Says Obidient Movement Coordinator
The national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, has affirmed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, remains committed to the party.
Speaking on Saturday at the Obidient Movement conference in Oyo State, themed “Going Forward: A New Nigeria is Possible,” Yunusa said Obi has pledged to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, dedicating it to steering Nigeria toward recovery.
He added that the party intends to build on its 2023 electoral gains to achieve a breakthrough in Oyo State and displace the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next general elections.
At the event, Francis Egbokhare, a linguistics professor at the University of Ibadan, likened Nigeria to “a giant lying prostrate and trampled by dwarfs,” lamenting how vast talent is stifled by systemic dysfunction. He cautioned against superficial political theatrics and urged the movement to overhaul the system if it fails to deliver justice and progress.
In his opening remarks, Oyo State Obidient coordinator and event convener, Ayo Akinyemi, described the gathering as a strategic rallying point for the movement within the state.
