Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stated on Monday that the current administration is revitalizing Nigeria’s public media sector. By prioritizing significant upgrades, such as the new high-tech television studio at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) headquarters and the renovation of the National Press Centre in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fulfilling his pledge to modernize the nation’s broadcasting capabilities.
During an inspection of these sites, the Minister noted that the NTA studio now ranks among the premier broadcast facilities in Africa. This project is part of a comprehensive strategy to update infrastructure across the NTA, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, the Voice of Nigeria, and the News Agency of Nigeria. Beyond physical structures, the initiative focuses on acquiring advanced technical equipment, fostering innovation, and enhancing staff training.
The Minister highlighted these improvements as a key component of the national Digital Switch Over program, intended to modernize public communication across the country. Additionally, he expressed satisfaction with the progress at the National Press Centre. Once complete, this facility will serve as a central media hub equipped with high-speed connectivity to support professional journalism. The government maintains that these efforts are essential for raising the standard of information dissemination to match international benchmarks.
