Federal Government strengthens domestic energy supply chain
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a robust local energy supply chain to shield Nigeria from global disruptions that continue to threaten cross-border energy operations.
Speaking at the 2025 Society of Petroleum Engineers Conference in Lagos, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said Nigeria can no longer rely heavily on international supply chains due to growing global instability.
“Trade wars, sanctions, currency volatility, regional conflicts, and security threats are disrupting the global movement of goods and services,” he said, adding that strengthening domestic capacity is essential to reduce future risks.
Lokpobiri noted that these efforts align with the government’s broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s energy landscape while empowering local stakeholders. He said President Tinubu’s administration has implemented business-friendly reforms to attract energy investment.
“The Petroleum Industry Act has liberalised the sector, improved capital mobility, and boosted investor confidence. Alongside executive orders and strategic incentives, we’re positioning Nigeria as a top destination for energy investors,” he explained.
According to him, increasing interest from foreign governments and private partners highlights renewed investor confidence in Nigeria.
To grow technical capacity in the sector, Lokpobiri announced the launch of a postgraduate energy university in Kaduna, developed in partnership with three leading UK universities.
“This initiative will deepen our human capital base and promote global best practices through specialised training,” he said.
He concluded by calling on industry stakeholders to collaborate in shaping a sustainable and profitable energy future through innovation, capacity development, and strategic partnerships
