Sarr Strike Seals Tottenham’s Preseason Win Over Arsenal In North London Derby
Tottenham Hotspur edged past Arsenal with a slim 1–0 victory in a tense preseason friendly on Thursday, thanks to a well-timed strike from Pape Matar Sarr just before half-time.
The 45th-minute goal, slotted home after a quick buildup, proved enough to separate the bitter North London rivals in what was otherwise a low-key encounter marked by few clear chances and tightly knit midfield battles.
Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur saw yellow in the 36th minute for a clumsy challenge, while late bookings for Arsenal’s Mikel Merino and Spurs’ Brennan Johnson added a spark to an otherwise disciplined affair.
Though just a preseason fixture, the derby served as a tactical testing ground for both squads ahead of the new season. Spurs fans, however, will take heart from the bragging rights earned in this summer skirmish though a peculiar error in post-match reporting wrongly credited the win to Thomas Frank’s Brentford side.
In the end, it was Ange Postecoglou’s men who walked off with the narrow triumph, and perhaps, a psychological edge going into the new campaign.
