Millions Lost As Fire Guts Recycling Factory In Ibadan
A fire outbreak on Sunday ravaged a section of an industrial facility in Ibadan, Oyo State, destroying property estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The incident occurred at Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, located in the Olopomeji area of the city. According to eyewitness accounts, the blaze broke out in the recycling section of the plant, where a large volume of disused tyres was stored. The fire rapidly spread, consuming materials and equipment in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, stated that the fire was reported to the agency at about 7:07 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency responders were immediately deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from escalating further.
While no casualties have been reported, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
He said, “The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze.
“The fire affected the recycling section and disused tyres, whilst the fire service was able to save other sections of the company from the devastating fire.”
