Police Confirm UNIMED Registrar Murdered in Akure — Assailants Force Poison Down His Throat
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the suspected murder of Mr. Adeniran Ezekiel Imoleayo, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City. He was reportedly attacked and forcefully poisoned by two unidentified assailants at his residence in Akure on July 16, 2025.
According to police sources who spoke to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident took place in the Olopa to Di Woli area along Ondo Road. The victim had stepped outside to investigate a strange noise on his roof when two men emerged from a nearby bush, overpowered him, and allegedly forced him to ingest a liquid substance believed to be poison.
Mr. Olowoyo Odunayo Adewale, the victim’s driver, later discovered Adeniran unconscious in the compound and rushed him to the Police Hospital in Akure, where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer.
The body has been deposited at Divine Haven Mortuary, Akure, for preservation and autopsy. Detectives have already visited the crime scene, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
Police also confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a patrol team to a suspected hideout, where one suspect was arrested. The individual has been handed over to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad for interrogation.
Mr. Adeniran was appointed as the third substantive Registrar of UNIMED by the institution’s Governing Council during its 23rd meeting on August 22, 2024. He officially assumed office on January 6, 2025.
