Buhari’s Daughters Thank Nigerians for Forgiving Their Late Father

The daughters of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari have expressed deep gratitude to Nigerians who chose to forgive their father for any perceived wrongs during his lifetime.

The former president passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London after a prolonged illness that was not publicly disclosed.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Hanan Buhari, popularly known as Aisha, shared the profound grief she felt following her father’s death.

“Losing my father feels like losing a part of myself,” she said, adding that what she would miss most about him was his sense of humour and the strong connection they shared.

Hanan went on to thank Nigerians who showed forgiveness toward her father. “We have nothing to say to them except thank you, thank God,” she said, describing the late president as someone who had good intentions for the country and lived simply as “one of the common people.”

She recalled how his discipline influenced her positively, saying, “That disciplined me to study, pray, and do things that made us happy.”

Hadiza Muhammadu Buhari, also known as Nana and the eldest of his children, recalled a touching moment with her father during his treatment in London.

“When I told him I was returning to Nigeria, he asked, ‘Where are you going?’ I told him I was going back, and he said, ‘Greet Nigerians.’”
