Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has voiced confidence in Nigeria’s chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the team’s current fourth-place standing in their qualifying group.

The three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions face a tough road ahead, with only one automatic qualification spot available.

With pressure mounting, Eric Chelle’s squad must collect maximum points from their remaining matches to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

In an interview with Brila FM, the Chippa United goalkeeper admitted to the team’s recent struggles but expressed strong optimism about their ability to turn things around.

“It is football. Just because we are Nigeria doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win every game,” Nwabali said. “You can see we still have a lot of chances to qualify, despite where we are on the table.”

Nwabali added that the team is focused on taking each game as it comes, emphasizing their determination to stay mentally strong and approach every match with full commitment as they push for qualification.

“We’re going to push in our next game, take it one game at a time, and we’ll see how our next four games go,” he concluded.

Nigeria will need a strong finish to their qualifying campaign to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming to return to the global stage after missing out on the 2022 edition.
