Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has revealed he held “serious” discussions about joining the Saudi Pro League.
The lengthy negotiations over a new contract between Salah and the Reds dragged on as his current deal neared its final months.
In November, the Egyptian forward admitted he was “more out than in” when discussing his future at Anfield.
However, in an interview with Egypt’s On Sport TV channel after Liverpool lifted the league trophy on Sunday, Salah was asked about his conversations with Saudi Pro League representatives.
He replied: “It was a good opportunity to me.
“If I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool it would have happened.
“My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.”
Salah ultimately signed a new contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at the club until 2027.
“The negotiations were long, I know the club’s policy [in negotiations], we reached a middle ground that made us all happy,” he added.
