NELFUND Goes Digital With Fully Automated Loan Application System
The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that its Student Loan Application System (SLAS) is now fully digitised, ushering in a streamlined and efficient process for both tertiary institutions and applicants.
In a statement issued Wednesday by the Fund’s Director of Corporate Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND confirmed that all accredited institutions are now required to request access to the SLAS portal to verify and upload students’ data—a critical step for timely loan approval and disbursement.
“Institutions yet to onboard must urgently send an access request to registration@nelf.gov.ng,” the statement urged. Once access is granted, institutions will be able to view a real-time dashboard, verify data, and monitor application progress.
NELFUND emphasised that no loan will be processed or disbursed without institutional verification. “We urge all institutions to act swiftly in the interest of their students,” Oluwatuyi added.
The digitisation marks a significant milestone in President Bola Tinubu’s flagship student loan initiative. Just weeks into office, Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act, laying the legal foundation for tuition loans aimed at supporting financially disadvantaged students in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The new system is expected to reduce bottlenecks and make access to higher education more equitable and efficient across the country.
