EPL: Guardiola Appoints New Man City Captain Following De Bruyne’s Exit
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has appointed Bernardo Silva as the club’s new captain.
Unlike previous selections, the decision was made solely by Guardiola and not through a team vote.
Silva replaces Kevin De Bruyne, who departed the club following the expiration of his contract.
Guardiola has also appointed three vice-captains for the upcoming season: Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland.
With Bernardo Silva’s contract set to expire next summer, his captaincy may last only one season. Although he hasn’t agreed to a contract extension, Silva has turned down multiple transfer offers in recent windows.
He remains a target for Saudi Arabian clubs and his former side, Benfica.
