Nigerian Pilgrim in Makkah Returns N8.2m to Russian Owner
A Nigerian pilgrim, Hajiya Zainab from Plateau State, returned a missing $5,000 (₦8,240,000) to its Russian owner in Saudi Arabia.
She found the money at Masjidul Haram in Makkah on Tuesday, May 27.
This was confirmed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Plateau State Pilgrims Board, led by Hon. Daiyabu Dauda.
“She demonstrated exceptional integrity and honesty by returning $5,000 she found in Masjidul Haram to its rightful owner. That’s a remarkable act of kindness,” Dauda said.
Meanwhile, NAHCON has revealed that talks are underway with Saudi authorities regarding the reopening of visa issuance for prospective pilgrims.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 28, Fatima Sanda Usara, assistant director of information and publications, noted that several countries, including Nigeria, are urging the Saudi government to lift the suspension on visa processing.
Usara expressed optimism that these discussions will result in a positive outcome.
“There is optimism for a positive outcome, and when that is realised, the Commission will immediately transport the registered pilgrims for the Hajj in another special arrangement,” she said.
She explained that the commission has kept some of its staff on standby to efficiently handle operations should the visa issuance window reopen.
