A man allegedly set his house ablaze in Asa Umudim, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, resulting in the death of one of his daughters, while two other children and his wife are currently fighting for their lives in hospital.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025, reportedly sparked by the man’s suspicion that his wife was having an affair, due to her phone frequently ringing.

The suspect allegedly accused his wife of often answering calls from men he believed to be her boyfriends. According to local sources, he doused his family with a flammable substance before setting the fire.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but the incident has deeply shocked the community, with residents expressing grief and outrage.

Angry villagers nearly lynched the suspect before the police arrived and arrested him.

The spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the daughter’s body has been deposited in a mortuary.
