Authorities in Bauchi State have taken four individuals into custody following a violent agricultural dispute in Kumba Village, Ningi Local Government Area. The confrontation took place on the afternoon of July 26, 2026, stemming from a disagreement regarding the disposal of farm waste.
Police reports state that 47-year-old Yakubu Mai-Duna and 40-year-old Kabiru Yusuf began arguing after weeds were moved between their neighboring properties. The situation intensified when Yusuf and his sons, Abdulrazak, Safiyanu, and Salisu, allegedly attacked Mai-Duna along with a bystander, Usman Gagare, who had attempted to mediate the conflict.
Following an emergency call, officers from the Burra Division arrived at the scene and transported the injured men to a local health center. Despite medical efforts, Mai-Duna passed away, while Gagare was treated and released. The four suspects currently face accusations including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for legal proceedings. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has called for community members to pursue peaceful conflict resolution and avoid vigilante actions.
