Six Nigerians Deported By US Government Over Criminal Offences

Six Nigerians have been deported from the United States for various criminal offences, as part of a wider immigration crackdown by the U.S. government.

The deportees arrived in Lagos on Wednesday morning aboard a Delta Airlines flight, which landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport shortly before 9 a.m. They were received by Nigerian security and immigration officials for further investigation and potential prosecution.

Reports indicate that this is part of a broader U.S. plan to deport around 3,000 Nigerians linked to different criminal activities.

This latest deportation wave follows the return of former President Donald Trump to office earlier this year. Within his first 100 days, Trump has reintroduced aggressive immigration policies targeting undocumented and criminal immigrants.

He has authorized arrests at sensitive sites like schools and courthouses and significantly ramped up workplace immigration raids.

Earlier this month, Trump’s border czar Tom Homan stated that workplace immigration arrests have already tripled and are expected to triple again under new enforcement directives.

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order instructing Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to release by May 28 a list of “sanctuary cities” allegedly obstructing federal deportation efforts. The order also calls for identifying and potentially suspending federal funding to those jurisdictions.

The U.S. embassy in Nigeria has not issued an official comment on the deportations. Nigerian authorities, meanwhile, are expected to conduct background checks on the deportees and determine any necessary legal steps.
