NSCDC CG Orders Arrest of Operatives Over Alleged N5.2m Extortion
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has ordered the immediate detention of officers accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from several youths in Ekiti State.
This action comes in response to a directive from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who called for a thorough investigation after a viral video surfaced.
The footage allegedly shows NSCDC personnel extorting a young man traveling from Ekiti to Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The NSCDC leadership has assured the public of accountability, stating that any officers found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
In a statement issued by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, Dr. Ahmed Audi strongly condemned the actions of the officers, labeling their behavior as unprofessional and a clear violation of the NSCDC’s Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedures.
He ordered that the implicated personnel be transferred to the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja, where they will remain in detention while a disciplinary inquiry, initiated by the government, is conducted.
The leadership of the Corps reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency, with Dr. Audi assuring the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face sanctions in accordance with the Public Service Rules.
He made it clear that the NSCDC would not tolerate corruption or unethical behavior within its ranks and warned that those responsible would be held accountable for their actions.
Dr. Audi further urged the public not to lose trust in the Corps, encouraging citizens to continue reporting any relevant information that could assist the agency’s efforts, without fear of harassment or extortion.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerians and assured that no officer would be shielded from justice if found guilty.
